Boxes exhibition

Participation in group exhibition, Milan/ IT

Aslı Çiçek participates with 'Obskur' in the group exhibition BOXES, curated by Sam Chermayeff Office.

Obskur is the result of a fascination and love for hat boxes, transparency and the colour violet. Made using an abandoned Plexiglas bell from an exhibition, which was turned upside down and customised with MDF discs. It is stackable, does not hide, but only contains.

BOXES is on display from 3 to 13 April 2025 during Milan Design Week, in Dropcity, Via Sammartini 54, Tunnel 54, Milan/ IT.

The world needs better boxes. By boxes, we mean things you can:

– Sit on
– Put at the end of a bed
– Store things—tools, guest bedding, toys and so on.
– Move with one or two strong persons.

There are surprisingly few good ones in the world that we know of. We would like to study boxes and to do that, we gather our friends - (none of whom are professional box makers)—to examine what makes a great box.

A box can be designed, assembled, upgraded, recycled, purchased, or acquired.

We have no business idea here, just a genuine interest in this specific, very typological, yet oddly rare object in our lives.

All the boxes were created without our further input and delivered directly to the exhibition venue at Dropcity in Milan. The exhibition design itself is an intuitive, on-site exercise by Sam Chermayeff Office.
