Renewal of James Ensor Galleries at Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp / BE

The renewed James Ensor galleries at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (KMSKA) feature a new spatial and colour concept by Aslı Çiçek. Housing the world's largest collection of works by James Ensor (1860–1949), the museum offers an exceptional overview of the Belgian artist's oeuvre.

The redesigned presentation introduces a subtle colour palette into the galleries. Carefully selected tones establish a dialogue with the colours and atmospheres of Ensor's paintings, enhancing their presence without competing with the works themselves. Rather than radically transforming the existing spaces, the intervention uses colour as an architectural element, introducing subtle distinctions between the rooms while maintaining a coherent setting for the collection.

The renewed galleries form part of KMSKA's permanent collection display in Antwerp.
